Penguin Story

Nils Olav, who is a king penguin, received his commission at the Edinburgh Zoo on Wednesday.
The honorary member of the Royal Norwegian Guard is the regiment's mascot but has been in Scotland, along with predecessor penguins, in a tradition dating back to the 1960s.

The penguins received honorary ranks whenever the guard visited the zoo.
Nils Olav has been at the zoo since 1993 and impressed the zookeepers enough to receive the military honor.

He started out as a Lance Corporal and was promoted four times, said a newspaper in Scotland.
Nils was seen reviewing the guard during a ceremony in his honor.
