  • It is a good idea to differentiate problems with your computer from those stemming from your internet service provider.

It may be, especially if you have a reasonably new computer that your computer is blameless and it is your ISP that is to blame.

If you dial up it is not your home computer. Switch to a cable connection or an ISDN line instead of a 56K dial up modem.

With all the pictures you load this will drive you mad.

Check that your modem is not covered up and is not overheating. If they get to hot this can slow them down.

Sometimes people with cable modems rather than having a dedicated internet address get really slow service when a lot of other people in their area are logged on. If you can, try to log on at other times. You will have much faster service.

If it is your computer's fault.

Clear your computer's cache. It holds a lot of useless internet pictures and junk.
Clear your history too if it has been a long time. Do not clear your bookmarks or cookies unless you know what you are doing.

IF you think you have spyware running do a google search on spyware cookies and print a list of offenders, then go to the cookie delete area of your browser and individually delete the offenders, then you can still log onto your bank, newspapers, forums, without looking up your passwords again.

Make sure you have at least 20% spare empty room on your had drive, on a computer with a REALLY big hard drive this means at least 10 GB on a 40 GB hard drive that means 1-2gb drive. This will let your computer have a really big swapfile when working with the internet or anything else. This is good.

Defragment your hard drive. You should have a utility on your computer to take all the little pieces of files scattered in random order all over your hard drive randomly and put them back in order in complete files right next to each other. You can see why your computer would find it much easier to find and read or print a file if it only had to look in one place instead of 20,000. This makes your computer work lots faster.

Buy, update or upgrade your virus protection software. Really. You have to do it. Otherwise you absolutely have all kinds of viruses and worms making your computer life a living hell unless you never ever connect to the internet which it looks like you do since you have a blog, or share files in any way.

Switch from Internet Explorer to Firefox for your browser and don't add too many extensions like I do which really can slow down how fast my blog loads, on my machine only, but are really cool. Without them Firefox is TONS faster than IE.

Since you have a lot of photos in your blog, don't keep too many live before they go to archive, this will make loading your web page on your own machine faster, but it was fast on mine, no probs.

You might want to edit out the copies of graphics you loaded with their new tool, I don't much like the tryptic effect and I am sure it impacts upload speed but if you do it right you get a super sharp graphic. See my recent funny for an example.

Buy a Mac with OS 10.4 Tiger. A new Mac with Tiger will be blisteringly fast, cooler than any machine you have ever, ever had, be virus free and be a joy to work with. I promise.

    Hope these help.
